"Nigeria's featherweight world champion Hogan (Kid) Bassey scored a 3rd round knockout over Mexico's power-punching Ricardo (Pajarito) Moreno. Bassey weathered Moreno's bull-like rushes and lashing blows even though they staggered him and then landed a jolting right to the head in the 3rd round to drop Moreno for the full count after 2:58 of the round. The crowd was sent into hysterical cheers when Moreno staggered Bassey midway in the 1st round with a series of jolting lefts and an occasional right. The 2nd round as a round in which Bassey had a clear margin. And then came the 3rd round. The KO punch was a battering right to the head that sank Moreno to his knees, and he then keeled over in his corner while referee Tommy Hart tolled the full count." -United Press
