"Howard (KO) Smith, 203, Los Angeles, the California heavyweight champion, finished off giant Jack O'Halloran, 240 1/2, San Diego, in the 6th round of the 10 round main event at the Coliseum. From the opening round, the fast Smith outmaneuvered the big Irishman. In the 6th, Howard dropped O'Halloran with a hard right to the body for a mandatory eight count. Smith followed up with several lefts and rights and again O'Halloran visited the canvas. At this point, referee Frank Rustich intervened." -Ring Magazine, December 1974 issue
