- Date: 1961-05-02
- Location: Empire Pool, Wembley, London, United Kingdom
"Howard Winstone of Wales won the British featherweight boxing title at Wembley tonight when he beat the holder, Terry Spinks, who retired at the end of the 10th round of a 15 round contest. With a rapier-like left, a deadly right hook and astonishing speed, the slender Welshman had Spinks in dire trouble midway through the contest, when it was clear that a new champion was to be crowned. Winstone, a former British Empire Games champion, is now unbeaten in 25 professional contests." -Reuters
