Beshore learned to box while serving the Navy during World War II. He was a ranked Heavyweight contender during the late 1940's and early 1950's. Though not a heavy puncher, Freddie could dish it out and take it, but he was highly susceptible to cuts, which were the culprit in at least four of his stoppage losses.
