According to an item about scheduled bouts at the Olympic Auditorium in the May 1, 1931 edition of the Los Angeles Times on the Newspapers.com website, Guy Salerno, a graduate of the University of Southern California, was scheduled to fight Buster Malini in a special event.

According to the U.S. Census Records on the Ancestry.com website, one Guy Salerno, a 31-year-old native of California, was living with his wife, Gertrude, and his 2-year-old daughter, Ruth, in Pasadena, California during 1940. At the time, Salerno was a "District Manager" in the "Vacuum Cleaner" business, earning $2,200. in 1939. He owned his home, valued at $4,500., and had six years of college.
