Ralph Brooks, Jack Dempsey's sparring partner in early 1926, Brooks died at Richmond, Virginia, Feb. 17, 1926, of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The paper also reported that Sgt. Brooks said to be the champion of the Army in Occupation of Germany." He was stationed at the Hawaiian Islands in 1918; France; and Camp Dodge, Des Moines, IA. Promoted to Sergeant Dec 1918. Discharged February 1919. Re-Enlisted and sent to Germany.
