Willie Reddish was born in Bamberg, SC. He started his boxing career fighting in and around Camden, SC, where he worked as a bootblack in a local barbershop. He moved to Philadelphia in 1932 and won the Philadelphia Golden Gloves and the Middle Atlantic A.A.U. title, despite having fought professionally in South Carolina.
He was managed by Jack Puggy. He weighed around 182 lbs, but was one of the most avoided heavyweights of his day. Willie later became one of the leading trainers in Philadelphia, working with: Gil Turner, Toothpick Brown, Sugar Hart, Sonny Liston, Curtis Parker, Rudy Donato, etc. He died in Philadelphia.
