Willie Reddish was born in Bamberg, SC. He started his boxing career fighting in and around Camden, SC, where he worked as a bootblack in a local barbershop. Despite having fought professionally in South Carolina, he would win the Philadelphia Golden Gloves and the Middle Atlantic A.A.U. title after moving to Philadelphia in 1932. He was managed by Jack Puggy. He weighed around 182 lbs, but was one of the most avoided heavyweights of his day. Willie later became one of the leading trainers in Philadelphia, working with: Gil Turner, Toothpick Brown, Sugar Hart, Sonny Liston, Curtis Parker, Rudy Donato, etc. He died in Philadelphia.
