Although only fighting 2 professional fights, Jesse Vela fought for several years in the amateur circuits and doing many exhibition fights without losing a single one. His only credited loss came from a bout in Arizona where he was scheduled to fight a middleweight fighter but due to a no-show his opponent was changed to a fighter in a heavier weight class than he was in. Following an illegal blow, a punch to the throat, the fight was stopped due to his trainer refusing to let the handicapped match continue. Aside from this "loss" no other fighter bested him in his career as a boxer.
