Edward White, aka Kid Ryan, had left home when he was young. His home was Everett, Washington, USA. His family didn't know what happened to him. Then, in January 1916, according to the EVERETT TRIBUNE newspaper, he contacted his family to let them know he had become a professional boxer, and had been boxing for about three years. According to that newspaper, he was 22-years-old at this time. The Joe Rivers bout is from his letter to his family, as related by the newspaper. The correct Joe Rivers, however, is uncertain at this time.
