Eddie Gregg won two New York Golden Gloves Championships: the 1977 Sub-Novice Heavyweight Championship, and the 1978 Open Heavyweight Championship. Gregg stopped Peter Minott in the first round of the finals to win the 1977 title, and defeated Charles Arnold in the 1978 finals to win that Championship. Representing New York in 1978, he won the heavyweight Intercity Golden Gloves' championship vs. Renaldo Snipes.

Gregg trained at the New York City Recreation Department's St.John's Center.

He was managed by Michael Rakosi.
