Packey O'Gatty was a member of the O'Gatty boxing family, which included Jimmy O'Gatty. He was also famous for the The People vs. Packey O'Gatty case, in which the New York Supreme Court ruled that the repeal of the 1911 Frawley Act in November 1917 also automatically outlawed club-membership boxing in the state. (Feb 1918)
O'Gatty's three alleged fights in Germany, shown in some records, have been omitted from the record career linked here. None of these fights are mentioned in the comprehensive German boxing publications, Box-Sport and Box-Woche. If they occurred they were not professional affairs.
O'Gattey had returned to the U.S. on July 16 1923 from South America. Although his record lists a 3-round KO win over one 'Angel Mollindo' supposedly held on June 30 1923 at Santiago de Chile, this bout did not occur on this date or location. Likewise, no evidence can be found in contemporary local papers for a first round KO over one Pete Leonard that supposedly took place at Hong Kong on Jan. 25 1928 and a 2nd round KO over one Ah Chung that supposedly took place at Shanghai on Jan. 18 1928.
