Date of birth unknown. Reported to have been 25 when he died. On August 19, 1929, Ritchey was scheduled to fight Roy Winters on the Toledo, Washington card. However, he arrived intoxicated (this is during United States Prohibition) and created a disturbance. Thus, he was arrested by the town marshall and placed in the Toledo Jail. When the fights were over, people leaving the venue noticed the jail on fire. Ritchey was found burned to death at 10:00 in the evening. His parents lived in California at this time.
