According to the Nov. 25, 1928 Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Seattle Daily Times, Johnson was from Everett, WA. By November 1928 he had returned to the Puget Sound area from a two-year boxing tour of the Eastern United States. Reportedly, he had fought in NYC, the southern United States, and eastern Canada during this time. These papers also said he had fought in Seattle "several years ago" in a semi-final. And that he had fought Madison Dix and Young George Dixon. (See a photo of him in these newspaper editions.)
