- Tsuji died on March 24, 2009 from injuries sustained in his bout against Yuji Kanemitsu. Following the knockout loss, Tsuji was immediately rushed to the Jikei Medical University Hospital where he tragically passed away three days later from a brain hemorrhage. It was the first ring death to occur in a title bout in Japan. Of note, Kanemitsu was also hospitalized after the bout with a slight brain injury which lead the Japan Boxing Commission to force him to hang up the gloves for good.
