Dick Turner had an outstanding amateur boxing career. Including service bouts, he compiled an undefeated record of 43-0. Turner's career ended abruptly in 1964, after he suffered a detached retina in his bout with Stanley Hayward.
He was the uncle of pro fighters middleweight Frank Fletcher and lightweight Anthony Fletcher.
