Billiards was the brother of Joe Carson. Billiards was known in Cincinnati for being willing to absorb a significant amount of punishment. The July 26, 1926 Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Billiards worked one day in the camp of heavyweight champion Jack Dempsey, daring Dempsey to hit him in the chin, and was put down fourteen times before being ejected from camp. Billiards was a frequent headliner at Humboldt Park Arena in Cincinnati. Billiards was originally from Allentown, PA, and his real last name was Van Billiard.
