Buzzy Carr's name in real life was Joseph Bruno Shontz 1890-1965. He was a carpenter when he was not in the ring. He was married and had nine children, 7 girls and 2 boys. Family legend is that he liked his drink. He was featured in the Pittsburgh Press on 14 April 1912 page 24 in an article that described his rising status in the Pittsburgh area boxing scene, and there are some photographs of him there.
