NEW BEDFORD -- Caesar C. "Sassy" Leite, 84, of Fairhaven, a former professional boxer, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was the widower of Gladys F. (Margeson) Leite and son of the late Manuel C. and Mary (Pacheco) Leite. Born in Acushnet, he had lived in Fairhaven since 1958. A professional boxer for several years, Mr. Leite fought in Massachusetts and Rhode Island; he also fought in Madison Square Garden in New York City, N.Y. He was a trainer in this area for some time. Mr. Leite was a security guard for Reed & Barton and worked for Brittany Dye & Printing Corp. in New Bedford until his retirement. Survivors include two daughters, Linda E. Haggis of Fairhaven and Joyce Zazzi of Sacramento, Calif.; a son, William Leite of Swansea; two brothers, Abel Leite and Manuel Leite, both of New Bedford; a sister, Sophie LaFrance of Mattapoisett; five grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and several cousins. He was the brother of the late Ernest Leite, Tobey Leite and Mary Correia.
