According to a report [not yet corroborated] in The New York Sun of April 21, 1883, Stewart had been knocked out by John L Sullivan at Toronto prior to that date.

According to a report in the London Free Press, a year after the second bout with Thompson, Stewart, back down to 185, knocked out one Alf Cliffe of Toronto in the fourth round. The venue was somewhere in old Westminster Township. One hundred fight fans attended.
