There was a feather Kid Blackie from Ely, Utah, known in local boxing training circles as early as 1910. [5] [6] [7] [8]. These two may be the same fellow.
It has been claimed that future World Heavyweight Champion Jack Dempsey started his career in Utah and Colorado as "Kid Blackie." See Kid Blackie: Jack Dempsey's Colorado Days. However, that obviously was not the featherweight boxer here.
