Biography

Louis John DiBella, Jr. (born 17 May 1960 in Brooklyn, New York) is a world-renowned Hall-of-Fame boxing promoter. Fighters promoted in the past include Jermain Taylor and Bernard Hopkins, both world champions. Also Paul Malignaggi, a former junior welterweight champion.

DiBella was the Senior Vice President for HBO Sports for 11 years, where he created the acclaimed “Boxing After Dark”. In 2000, DiBella started his own promotional firm, DiBella Entertainment. He is also the President and Managing General Partner of the San Francisco Giants’ Double-A affiliate, the Richmond Flying Squirrels, as well as the CEO and Managing Owner of the Tampa Bay Rays’ Double-A affiliate, the Montgomery Biscuits. He has promoted Sergio Gabriel Martinez, Ike Quartey, Andre Berto, Zsolt Erdei, Glen Johnson, Jose Pedraza and Andy Lee among others.

DiBella was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2020 and inducted in 2022. He was also inducted into the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame in 2014 and the Connecticut Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015. He received the Boxing Writers Association of America’s James A. Farley Award for Honesty and Integrity in 2016 and their Sam Taub Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism in 2018. DiBella made his acting debut in the 2006 feature film, “Rocky Balboa”.
