According to an obituary in the November 8, 1943 edition of the San Bernardino County Sun, Joseph "Peppy" Sanchez died at his home from an illness of several days which was complicated by a heart ailment on Saturday night (November 6, 1943). A short time before, Sanchez had received a medical discharge from the U.S. Army. While serving in the army, Sanchez spent a lot of time "managing and training soldier fighters."

According to an item in the February 12, 1943 edition of the San Bernardino Sun, Peppy Sanchez was joining the U.S. Armed Forces.
