Adams turned to wrestling after his boxing career ended in 1932, appearing on cards in Riverside County. He then served a second stint in the United States Army during World War II. Adams was charged with violating the state law barring accepting of money in matches in December 1921. A judge barred him from the ring until he is 21, which kept Adams out of San Bernardino fights for about 17 months, though he violated his probation by boxing in Santa Ana, and possibly Arizona. He ultimately returned to regular fighting well before he turned 21.
