Jack Martin, a columnist with the Lancaster, PA Intelligencer Journal, called the attention of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission to two professional bouts in which Snitz Mason had participated in 1930. This was part of Martin's ongoing coverage in 1934 of the way in which central Pennsylvania amateur boxers were being compensated. The Pennsylvania Commission, at that time, had some oversight of amateur boxing and barred Mason from further amateur competition on the grounds that he had been a professional boxer in 1930.
