"Prize Fight.- On Sunday night the steamer Traveler took about one hundred Portland newspaper reporters and roughs down to Knapp's Landing, in this county, and on Monday morning early two bruisers mauled each other until one had enough. The Prize-fighters were a Portland bartender named Morgan, and one Tom Manning, formerly a private in the 1st Cavalry. The ex soldier won the stakes. Sheriff Nerton expresses his regrets that he was not notified of the affair, as he would have delighted in bringing the crowd in."
