Charles "Dempsey" Merrell was known as the "Pizza King" in Cincinnati in the 1960s and1970s. Merrell had been a local amateur boxer for almost 20 years.In 1971, at 40, Merrell decided to become a professional boxer, in part to get publicity for a new steakhouse he was opening. Merrell was knocked by local club-fighter Primus Williams, however, he got plenty of free publicity and retired from boxing a happy business man.

Biography

Merrell was born on May 9, 1931 and died on May 31, 2010 in St.Elibeth Edgewood. He was a Sgt.in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War. Owned Village InnPizza and Dempsey's Realty for 35 years.Survived by his wife,son, stepson,and two grand-children.
