Jones was a bartender (thirst clerk) by trade. And also an iron molder. He broke his nose while training in early September 1914. For a nice article on Jones, see the April 4, 1916 TACOMA DAILY NEWS. By then, he was living in Anchorage, Alaska, working on the federal railway then under construction. While in Alaska, he engaged in some wrestling matches with Young Viking and Johnny Blase.
