According to the Find-A-Grave website, one William Morton was born on August 16, 1896 in England and died on April 30, 1962 in Elgin, Illinois. He was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Rockford, Illinois. According to his obituary on the website. Morton died in the Elgin State Hospital after an illness of three years. A member of the Chicago Bartenders Union 278, Morton lived in Rockford for five years and in Chicago for 35 years. Known in the sports world as "Puggy Morton," he once was the lightweight champion of Canada and the lightweight champion of the Pacific Coast. Morton was survived by two sisters and three brothers.
