According to an obituary in the June 13, 1901 edition of the National Advocate (Bathurst, New South Wales) on the Trove website, Tom Meadows died at 1 pm on June 12, 1901. He was born in Liverpool, England during 1863 and had moved to Australia at the age of 18. During his career as a professional boxer, Meadows had bouts in Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom. For about ten years, he had been a boxing instructor in Sydney before coming down with consumption (tuberculosis). After receiving medical advice to move to the countryside fifteen months before his death, Meadows resided in Bathurst where he operated "his well known Gymnasium in Keppel-street." His widow survived him.
