Times-Herald reported James Obrest otherwise known to Buffalo sports fans as Joe Leonard died at 61 at Moses Taylor Hospital as a result of pneumonia following right leg amputation caused by Obrest being crushed against a wall by a locomotive. He was a bricklayer at Bethlehem Steel Company. He was considered a model athlete as he abstained from tobacco and alcohol even after retiring from the ring.
