The Citizen-Advertiser on February 19, 1932 state Jimmy Dean of Erie, PA use to box as Jimmy O'Kelly in the amateur rings. The Citizen-Advertiser on October 19, 1933 stated Jimmy (O'Kelly) Reed of Erie. Either way O'Kelly was an assumed name of a professional fighting as an amateur in New York bootleg clubs.
