At the time of his draft registration on September 12, 1918, he was working as a boilermaker for a railroad company and was residing in Lincoln, Nebraska.

According to the United States Census Records on Ancestry.com, one Daniel T. Gartin, a 41-year-old native of Missouri and a cabdriver, was living with his 28-year-old wife, Fern, and a 12-year-old step-daughter, Ruth Williams, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Gartin owned his home, which was valued at $1,000.

According to his death notice in the October 27, 1971 edition of the Lincoln Star (Lincoln, Nebraska) on Newspapers.com, Daniel T. Gartin, a 73-year-old resident of Dudley, died on Monday (October 25, 1971). He was a "Retired professional boxer" as "Teddy Gartin" and worked as a cab driver for 28 years. He was survived by his wife, Fern, three daughters, four grandchildren, a brother and two sisters.
