- On May 1st 2024 it was publicly released Ryan Garcia tested positive for the PED Ostarine the day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney, per a VADA letter obtained by ESPN. On June 20th the bout was changed to a no contest; Garcia was fined $1.1 million and suspended for a year after taking the plea deal over taking it to trial.
- On July 4, 2024, Ryan Garcia was expelled by the WBC president Mauricio Sulaimán after using derogatory slurs towards African Americans among others in a live stream. Sulaiman said that Garcia declined multiple attempts by the WBC to help with his mental health and substance abuse. Garcia's family released a statement saying, Ryan has been open about his ongoing struggle with mental health over the years and as a family we are committed to ensuring and encouraging that he receives the necessary help to navigate this very challenging time and address both his immediate and long-term well-being.
