According to a Sept. 29, 1926 article in the EVERETT DAILY HERALD newspaper, Coggins was making his Everett debut that night. The paper said that he had fought four main events in Hollywood, California, in as many weeks two years previous, meeting such boxers as Jack Silver, Walter Runey, and others. He boxed with Jack Dempsey. His brother, Charlie, was a boxer at this time, too.
