While sparring Feb. 14, 1926 with Irving Selden at Tacoma, Washington (at Eddie Marino's Olympic Gym), Jones collapsed after Frankie (Che-Che) Britt had removed his gloves and Jones died of heart failure. His death resulted in Tacoma requiring that a physician examine every boxer before they entered a ring. He was reported to have been 19 when he died. (His exact date of birth is unknown.)
