According to the March 19, 1942 issue of The Evening Leader (Corning, NY) Frankie McCranels was known as Frankie Mack of Detroit. His manager had been Edna May Greiner of Detroit until her death in 1930. He had beaten Billy Munck in 1929 as well as KO victories over Mickey Macurnis a Boston featherweight, and Roy Banks of Flushing. He had point wins over Eddie Fitzsimmons and Adam Helzer.

February 4, 1932 issue of The Evening Leader stated McCranels had won 17 KOs in 27 professional fights in Michigan.
