Career Review

Woods was a highly touted heavyweight prospect in the 1960s. He was noted for his one punch knockout power; winning his first 4 fights by first round knockout. KO'd his first three opponents in 31 seconds, 28 seconds and 17 seconds, setting Florida State records for consecutive fastest knockouts.

Was billed as the next Jack Dempsey, and as "Irish" Harley Woods. Trained and managed by Sam Boardman. Ring Magazine writer Tom Ephrem wrote in the July, 1965 issue that "" Seldom in 28 years of reporting for Ring Magazine has your correspondent flipped over a prospect as potent as punching Harley Woods."

However, following his first defeat, Woods career took a nose-dive, and with-in two years, he was retired from boxing. Woods half-brother was veteran Doyle Shiver.
