Cozy Costello appeared in an alleged 342 bouts prior to joining the US Navy in 1942 where he suffered an injury which ended his boxing career. He was managed by his step-brother and former pro fighter Tony Storace hence the ring name Cozy Storace. Daily Sentinel September 7, 1967

Chief Specialist Casey Costello was discharged from the US Navy August 1945 where he had been stationed in Key West and served as a physical instructor and boxing teacher. While in boot camp Costello injured his back and required three operations. Later he fell and broke his glasses and injured his eye when pieces of glass were imbedded over his left eye which required multiple surgeries (Rome Daily Sentinel August 24, 1945).
In 1939 Cozy Storace of Rome, New York won the National AAU at welterweight vs. Jimmy Bivins of Cleveland, Ohio.
