Salvatore Caruso (son of Raffaele Angelo Caruso and Giuseppina Fontanarosa) was born June 27, 1905 in Johnsonburg, Elk County, Pennsylvania, and died June 29, 1965 in Bay City, Michigan.

Sam Caruso was a professional fighter in the late 1920's and early 1930's. He won the state title in the junior lightweight class. It was reported at one time Sam and Joe Louis shared the same trainer. After his retirement from the ring he worked for the Prestolite Company. division Eltra Corp. He was also president of Local 526 UAW-CIO. He was employed with this company for 28 years. Sam also did television repairs in the early fifties.
