Davey Adelman was born in Winnipeg, Canada, to Russian immigrants. He moved to the United States when he was about 18 years old, eventually settling in Philadelphia. He married when he was 20.
He was ranked by The Ring as the #15 Flyweight in the world in their annual ratings for 1925, and #12 in 1926. Famed boxing promoter Tex Rickard ranked Adelman as the #10 best flyweight in the world for 1926. Adelman fought three world champions in his fighting career:Panama Al Brown, Pete Sanstol, and Frankie Genero. He lost to Brown and Genera, and drew and lost with Sanstol. He also defeated several world class highly ranked flyweights and bantamweights including Willie Davis, Marty Gold, Black Bill, Frankie Anselm, and Lew Massey.
