  • Of Hebrew heritage, he began his career under the name "Young Mendel." Schwartz though started fighting as a flyweight for the first five years of his career before moving on to fight as a bantamweight.
  • Ranked by The Ring Magazine in 1927 as the 14th best bantamweight in the world.
  • Ranked the #9 best bantamweight in world by The Ring from June to September 1928
  • Elected into the Maryland Boxing Hall of Fame in 1981. Southern Flyweight Champion 1922 to 1924. And certainly would have been a very highly ranked Flyweight in this time period had top ten rankings lists been published at that time.

Also fought for the World Flyweight Championship in 1923 but defeated over 15 reds. by the great Pancho Villa.
