- Ian Lewison was a very successful amateur fighting out of Miguel's Amateur Boxing Club (Brixton). At the 2000 ABA National Championships, Lewison made the finals of the tournament facing David Dolan where it came to a split decision and Dolan was awarded the win. Also in 2000, Lewison made the selection for the England team and went on to fight and win in Thailand, Hungary and Sweden. In 2002 , Lewison made the finals of the ABA National Championships for the second time, facing David Price which was a split decision and controversially the win was awarded to Price.
- Ian Lewison claims to have amateur wins over Robert Helenius and Odlanier Solis, though there is no record of these wins in any major amateur results database. However, according to http://amateur-boxing.strefa.pl/Tournaments/GeeBee2002.html, he did lose to Helenius 24-9 in the 2002 Gee-Bee tournament final.
