"Ike Williams, the NBA lightweight champion from Trenton, NJ, and Freddie Dawson, Chicago, fought to a disputed 10 round draw last night in a non-title scrap at the Arena before a sell-out crowd. A chorus of boos greeted the decision as many ringsiders thought that Dawson had earned a clean-cut victory over the champion. Dawson continually ducked and feinted Ike into exposed positions, then shot home counter-rights and left hooks that jarred Williams. In close Dawson constantly tied up Ike. In several rounds Williams chased Dawson around the ring but failed to get a clear shot at the elusive Freddie. In the 5th and again in the 7th Williams seemed to have hurt Dawson, but the Chicagoan shook it off and then came on to swarm all over Williams in the last round." -Associated Press
