Iron Bux
Name: Iron Bux
Birth Name: Ali Mohamed Bux
Hometown: Manila, Metro Manila, Philippines
Birthplace: Hong Kong
Pro Boxer: Record
Iron Bux was a Hindu who started his boxing career in Hong Kong. "Bux" was his family name and "Iron" was a nickname derived from his endurance and success in the ring.
Apparently Bux had a few bouts before going to Manilla, Philippines, which was the chief center of boxing in the Orient at that time. Thereafter, most of his boxing was done in Manila and nearby locations. Occasionally he would return to Hong Kong to visit relatives, but he found little opportunity there to extend his career.
Bux held, at different times, the featherweight and lightweight titles of the Orient, and fought for the Oriental welterweight championship. Oriental titles were an invention of Manila promoters, and for many years the Orient title fights rarely occurred outside Manila. It should be noted that non-Orientals often held Oriental titles, mainly including American servicemen based in the Philippines and visiting Australians.
