Isaac Logart 148 lbs beat Gaspar Ortega 152 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Isaac Logart of Cuba racked up his 5th straight victory with his unanimous decision over Mexico's Gaspar Ortega. Ortega absorbed everything the fast-firing Cuban tossed and threw back a good number of right hand bombs of his own. Logart chopped away at his taller rival with wicked left hooks to the body and head. He drew blood from the Mexicali youngster's nose but couldn't bring him down at any time. Logart staggered Ortega in the 6th and 10th but Ortega weathered each storm and fired back to the delight of the fans. The fans booed the unanimous decision as a tribute to the underdog's gameness more than anything else." -Associated Press

  • Unofficial AP scorecard - 7-3 Logart
  • Only 1,000 were in attendance on the card due to it being televised and due to a driving NY snow storm.

  • "Let the winner then fight Vince Martinez for the right to meet the champion. The kid is ready for anyone and we're ready to take on any one in the way." -Eddie Mafuz, Logart's manager, after agreeing to an April 27, 1956 match with Tony DeMarco in Miami. The bout however, never came off.
