"Isaac Logart, the top-ranked welterweight contender from Cuba scored a unanimous decision after 12 rounds over Gaspar Ortega of Mexico at the Cleveland Arena Friday night in the first of a series of elimination bouts for the vacant 147 pound crown, which was relinquished by Carmen Basilio. There were no knockdowns and both fighters were unmarked after the fight, but Logart staggered his opponent in the 6th and 8th rounds with a series of rights and lefts to the head." -Associated Press
