Biography
Isidoro Moreno was a well-schooled Cuban amateur boxer who came to the United States during the 1980 Mariel Boatlift.
Moreno had compiled a reported amateur boxing record of 114-25 as a member of the Cuban National Team. When he came to South Florida in 1980, Moreno was already 40 years old, yet he decided to become a professional boxer.
After losing his debut fight in Puerto Rico, he racked up an undefeated streak of 8 straight knockouts and became a popular attraction in Miami Beach. In his 9th fight there, Moreno knocked down Johnny Torres, no less then 3 times in the first two rounds, and had the crowd screaming for the referee to stop the fight. However, Torres came back to stagger Moreno, and the fight was halted. The controversial stoppage led to a rematch, but something had gone out of Moreno following his first defeat. Torres battered and stopped him in the rematch.
Isidoro Moreno continued to fight on, but the spark was no longer there, and Moreno drifted into oblivion a short time later.
