Ismael Laguna 127 lbs beat Rafiu King 127 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1963-11-18
  • Location: Palais des Sports, Paris, Paris, France
  • Referee: Paul Castellano

"After watching Panama's brilliant Ismael Laguna dazzle his way to an easy decision over Nigeria's Joe (Rafiu) King, French, as well as visiting British reporters, paid the top-ranked featherweight contender their highest tribute: "He reminds us of Panama Al Brown." Exceptionally tall for a 126 pounder at 5'9", Laguna showed extraordinary resilience. Doubled up under the impact of a furious body assault in the 3rd, he zoomed back to win the round. King rallied sharply in the 6th and 7th, but Laguna again had the poise, skill and stamina to whip back into control." -Boxing Illustrated, February 1964 issue
