Jack Bodell 206 lbs beat Jimmy Richards 196 lbs by PTS in round 10 of 10

  • Date: 1970-07-18
  • Location: Ellis Park Tennis Stadium, Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
  • Referee: Bob Winchester

"Jack Bodell, Britain's No. 2 heavyweight, 206 1/4, gave South Africa's Jimmy Richards, 196, a 10-round beating at Ellis Park before 4,000. For the fans it was a thriller, for Richards, a harsh lesson in inexperience. Richards won only two rounds but he had his moments of glory. The opening bell was still echoing in the Stadium when Richards clipped Bodell with a left hook to the jaw. Bodell took a count of eight and as Richards rushed in for the kill he was caught with a southpaw left and was on the canvas for nine. Bodell pushed him away and down went Richards for another count. Richards was more wary from then on but was beaten to the punch by a better man." -Ring Magazine, November 1970 issue
